Yuen Ka-ho, a life sciences student at CUHK, took part in the Cambodia Service Trip organized by the CUHK Golden Z Club from the end of 2011 to the beginning of 2012.
Thirty-six members of the University YMCA took part in the 'Ride-a-Bike for Children in China Marathon 2011' from 25 to 29 December 2011 to raise fund for poor students in Qingyuan.
A group of students from S.H. Ho College went with the Vice-Chancellor to Wototo, Uganda, for a service tour in July 2011. They rendered much needed help to orphaned children and deprived women there, and were greatly impressed by the friendliness and the aspiration of the people they served.

Wong Ka-ying, Year 3 student in fine arts, joined the Service Corps of HKSAR and went to Guangdong to serve as a teacher in a local primary school.
Students of Morningside College took part in a visit to two villages in a remote part of the Mainland where they conducted a survey on the public health needs there.
Prof. Edward Ng Yan-yung (right) started the Wu Zhiqiao project to help building safe passages in rural areas in China. Today the project has benefited thousands of commuting students in far-off places. Prof. Ng received the Hong Kong Humanity Award in May 2010.
The Watoto Children's Choir, made up of children orphaned by AIDS or warfare in Uganda, was in Hong Kong to take part in S.H. Ho College's celebration of its fourth anniversary in October 2010. Here the children were seen having a good time in the garden of the Vice-Chancellor.
With the assistance of a team from the School of Architecture, a seismic-proof study hall was built in Sichuan to enable young students victimized by the earthquake a few years ago to go back to school in relative safety.
<b>Et mirabilis in oculi nostril</b> ('and a miracle in our eyes'), an eco-friendly and seismic-proof school building was constructed as a CUHK School of Architecture initiative in Jiange County, Sichuan, within a fortnight, with participation of volunteers both local and from Hong Kong.
Lui Hoi-lam, an anthropology freshman, participated in the New Asia-Yale community service exchange programme in the summer of 2010 and spent a week in a homeless women shelter in the US, giving daycare services. She relishes her experience and misses the children under her care.
In October 2009,  21 students of Shaw College went to Cambodia to administer much needed help to impoverished communities there. At about the same time, the Head of College led another team of 20 students to Beichuan County and offered support and assistance in restoring the confidence and optimism of the residents.
For Kwong Wing-yan, a Year 5 medical student, hardship only helps to strengthen her resolve to be a medical volunteer in the future, having spent a year in Cameroon doing voluntary work, often in perilous situations where gunshots and other forms of violence were in close proximity.
The Wu Zhiqiao project is now a major charitable undertaking among university students in Hong Kong. Since 2007, teams of students have built more than 15 bridges for people living in some of the most under-developed regions on the mainland.
Social Work students from CUHK were in Sichuan to help with spiritual and cultural reconstruction among secondary school students there in the wake of the traumatic experience.
Some of our students spent their summer in Calcutta caring for orphans, mentally handicapped children, the destitute, and the dying. They demonstrated to us the bright side of the human face, and also gained for themselves an experience that would not fade from memory for a long time.
