The 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine, together with the 20th anniversary of the Nethersole School of Nursing and the 10th anniversary of the School of Public Health and Primary Care, was celebrated with a gala dinner in June 2011.
In May, the Central University in Taiwan, Nanjing University and CUHK formed a Cross-Strait Green University Consortium to promote the green message through joint programmes and collaborative activities.

The Centre for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response, being set up as a collaborative effort by CUHK, Oxford University and China Emergency Relief Training, was inaugurated in April 2011.

As part of an effort to build up a more caring campus, the Office of Student Affairs introduced the uBuddies Peer Counselling Network in January 2011, here seen inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor and the Provost.
The new teaching building which accommodates the Faculty of Business Administration was officially named and opened in January 2011 by the Financial Secretary and Dr. the Honourable Cheng Yu-tung, in the presence of the Chairman of the University Council and the Vice-Chancellor.
The Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability was established on 22 October 2011 to integrate and consolidate CUHK's strengths and endeavours in environmental research and education programmes.
Out of his respect for CUHK and the Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Bill Yeung, a famous local astronomer, named two of the asteroids he discovered after the University motto <b>(bo wen yue li)</b> and the Vice-Chancellor <b>(Sung Jao-yiu)</b> respectively.

At the 68th Congregation, at which Prof. Joseph Sung was installed as Vice-Chancellor, four illustrious personages, namely, Dr. Edgar Cheng, Prof. Xu Guanhua, Dr. Gerald Chan and Dr. Mok Hing-yiu (posthumous award) were admitted to doctoral degrees, <b>honoris causa.</b>

A commemorative plaque was unveiled when a memorandum of understanding was signed in November 2010 to facilitate cooperation between CUHK and the Centre for Historical Anthropology of the Sun Yat-sen University.
In November 2010, a team of Biochemistry students struck gold at MIT, where they won the championship in an international competition with a project proving the capacity of bacteria DNA as a device for information storage.
The Watoto Children's Choir, made up of children orphaned by AIDS or warfare in Uganda, was in Hong Kong to take part in S.H. Ho College's celebration of its fourth anniversary in October 2010. Here the children were seen having a good time in the garden of the Vice-Chancellor.
It is a time-honoured tradition at Chung Chi that the College anniversary festivities should be concluded with a singing contest, but it is rare that the singing features the Vice-Chancellor! This happened in October when the stage was graced by the presence of the Vice-Chancellor and the College Head.
An exhibition highlighting the large number of species found on the CUHK campus and how they might be appreciated from both scientific and aesthetic angles was opened by the Secretary for the Environment in October 2010.

Prof. Joseph Sung took up the headship at CUHK on 1 July 2010. He has a distinguished track record in medical research and community service, and is an eminent gastroenterologist.
