A workshop on global finance organized by the Institute of Global Economics and Finance drew a stellar assemblage of world-class authorities on the subject as speakers, and an equally stellar audience made up of key officers in public finance from several Southeast Asian jurisdictions.
The Institute of Global Economics and Finance was inaugurated in early 2010 as a research and training entity with economists and financiers of the first order among its members. It was set up to provide conceptual and policy input in the context of China's emergence as one of the world's fastest-growing economies.
Woo Yee Sun College, a fully residential facility among the five new Colleges, had its foundation stone laid in June 2010. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the donor and the Master-Designate (right).

The 9th Honorary Fellowship Conferment Ceremony<br><br>The University were conferred honorary fellowships to Prof. Lee Pui-leung Rance (1st left), Mr. Leung Yingwai Charles (2nd left), Prof. Thomas Chung-wai Mak (3rd left), Prof. Sun Sai-ming Samuel (3rd right), Dr. Tam Wah-ching (2nd right) and Prof. Wu Weishan (1st right). CUHK received the Gold award in the Public Organizations and Utilities sector at the 2009 HK Awards for Environmental Excellence, the highest accolade for ecologically-minded efforts among public bodies in Hong Kong.
Prof. Yau Shing-tung (4th right), Distinguished Professor-at-Large of CUHK, has recently added yet another rare star to his academic firmament. Already a Fields Medallist, Prof. Yau was presented with the 2010 Wolf Prize in Mathematics, making him the only person of Chinese ethnicity to date who holds both honours.
The Ven. Master Hsing Yun, a major figure in contemporary Buddhism with influence throughout the world, was on campus in April 2010 to speak to staff, students and members of the public on <b>Chan (Zen) and Enlightenment</b>. The Master's wisdom, often clothed in well-natured humour, was very well received by those who attended.

A walkathon led by Prof. and Mrs. Charles Kao, the Council Chairman, the Vice-Chancellor and ex-VCs Prof. Ma Lin and Prof. Ambrose King, took place on campus in March 2010, drawing 3,000 walkers from staff, students, alumni and friends. The event raised HK$3,000,000 for the Charles Kao scholarship endowment fund.

January 2010 saw the foundation stone of the Lee Woo Sing College laid amidst festivities attended by the Secretary for Home Affairs (4th left), the donors and old friends of CUHK like Prof. Zhang Junsheng (4th right) and Dr. Alice Lam (3rd right).
The Vice-Chancellor presented awards for Exemplary Service to eight members of staff in January 2010. The presentation ceremony was attended by some 160 guests including the families and friends of the recipients, their colleagues, and also senior academics and administrators of the University.
The 67th Degree Congregation took place in December 2009 with the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR presiding as Chancellor of the University. A total of 7,139 degrees were handed out during the event, and Dr. Song Jian, the Honourable Henry Tang and Prof. Roger Tsien were admitted into doctorates <b>honoris causa</b>.

Staff Honoured for Exemplary Service
Nine members of the University were presented the Exemplary Service Award 2007–08 by Prof. Lawrence J. Lau (6th left), Vice-Chancellor, on 6 February 2009 at the Esther Lee Building.
The annual football competition between staff members of HKU and CUHK, a tradition first instituted in 2003, took place in January 2009 at the Sir Philip Haddon-Cave Sports Field at the University. The Vice-Chancellor, Provost and all the Pro-Vice-Chancellors are seen here at the kick-off. The match ended with a 1-1 draw.
