The 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine, together with the 20th anniversary of the Nethersole School of Nursing and the 10th anniversary of the School of Public Health and Primary Care, was celebrated with a gala dinner in June 2011.
In May, the Central University in Taiwan, Nanjing University and CUHK formed a Cross-Strait Green University Consortium to promote the green message through joint programmes and collaborative activities.

The Centre for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response, being set up as a collaborative effort by CUHK, Oxford University and China Emergency Relief Training, was inaugurated in April 2011.

At the 68th Congregation, at which Prof. Joseph Sung was installed as Vice-Chancellor, four illustrious personages, namely, Dr. Edgar Cheng, Prof. Xu Guanhua, Dr. Gerald Chan and Dr. Mok Hing-yiu (posthumous award) were admitted to doctoral degrees, <b>honoris causa.</b>

In November 2010, a team of Biochemistry students struck gold at MIT, where they won the championship in an international competition with a project proving the capacity of bacteria DNA as a device for information storage.

The Institute of Global Economics and Finance was inaugurated in early 2010 as a research and training entity with economists and financiers of the first order among its members. It was set up to provide conceptual and policy input in the context of China's emergence as one of the world's fastest-growing economies.
The Tsinghua-MIT-CUHK Research Centre for Theoretical Computer Science was inaugurated in June 2010 to pool world-class resources of these 3 institutions to lead international research in the field.

CUHK received the Gold award in the Public Organizations and Utilities sector at the 2009 HK Awards for Environmental Excellence, the highest accolade for ecologically-minded efforts among public bodies in Hong Kong.
The Ven. Master Hsing Yun, a major figure in contemporary Buddhism with influence throughout the world, was on campus in April 2010 to speak to staff, students and members of the public on <b>Chan (Zen) and Enlightenment</b>. The Master's wisdom, often clothed in well-natured humour, was very well received by those who attended.

A walkathon led by Prof. and Mrs. Charles Kao, the Council Chairman, the Vice-Chancellor and ex-VCs Prof. Ma Lin and Prof. Ambrose King, took place on campus in March 2010, drawing 3,000 walkers from staff, students, alumni and friends. The event raised HK$3,000,000 for the Charles Kao scholarship endowment fund.

The 67th Degree Congregation took place in December 2009 with the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR presiding as Chancellor of the University. A total of 7,139 degrees were handed out during the event, and Dr. Song Jian, the Honourable Henry Tang and Prof. Roger Tsien were admitted into doctorates <b>honoris causa</b>.

Staff Honoured for Exemplary Service

The annual football competition between staff members of HKU and CUHK, a tradition first instituted in 2003, took place in January 2009 at the Sir Philip Haddon-Cave Sports Field at the University. The Vice-Chancellor, Provost and all the Pro-Vice-Chancellors are seen here at the kick-off. The match ended with a 1-1 draw.
