Funded by Beat Drugs Fund and established by the CUHK Department of Surgery, the Youth Urological Treatment Centre (YUTC) held its opening ceremony on 19 March 2012 at the Prince of Wales Hospital.
Prof. Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Li Ka Shing Professor of Medicine, received the AACC-NACB Award for Outstanding Contributions to Clinical Chemistry in a Selected Area of Research. He is the first ever Chinese to receive the honour.

The Department of Surgery at CUHK performed the first two cases of robotic-assisted endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for the treatment of early gastric neoplasia in Hong Kong. This complex endoscopic surgery involved the use of newly designed robotic arms attached to the ordinary endoscope.
In December 2010 Prof. Dennis Lo published his groundbreaking research that by analyzing a blood sample of the mother the entire genome of the fetus can be deduced and screened for possible diseases. Professor Lo was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in May 2011.

Prof. Rossa Chiu of the Department of Chemical Pathology won the 2011 Young Investigator's Award of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine and the same year's Professors' Prize of the Association of Academic Heads of Clinical Biochemistry Departments in the UK.
Prof. Jean Woo is in charge of the Cadenza Hub, a Jockey Club-supported but self-financing facility for seniors with chronic illnesses in Tai Po. It offers multi-disciplinary services in terms of treatment, assessment and management to elders in a relaxed and well appointed environment resembling a club.
The ending is nigh – nature's secret revealed: CUHK medical team discovered that genetic markers could predict end-stage renal diseases among diabetes sufferers.
Prof. Christopher Cheng of the School of Biomedical Sciences was honoured with a State Natural Science Award (second class) for his research on Chinese medicinal herbs. He attributed his success to collaborative work with research institutions of high repute on the mainland.
CUHK now has its own School of Biomedical Sciences to focus on research and participate in the training of students of advanced standing. Hu Shiu-ying, Honorary Professor of Chinese Medicine, and Senior Research Fellow (honorary), School of Life Sciences, passed away on 22 May 2012. A great authority on botany, Professor Hu joined the Department of Biology (currently the School of Life Sciences) at CUHK as a senior lecturer in 1968.
