六十周年校慶晚宴開幕辭

Opening Address by Professor Rocky S. Tuan
Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK

Mr Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR government;
Professor Chai, Chairman of the University Council;
Fellow university presidents; distinguished guests; alumni, colleagues and friends of CUHK;
ladies and gentlemen:

I am deeply honoured to speak to you at this memorable occasion marking the climax of the year-long celebration of the 60th anniversary of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Your presence here tonight is a testament to the enduring connection you have with CUHK and the unwavering support you have for us, which have enabled us to continuously pursue excellence with purpose and responsibility and make a profound impact on Hong Kong, our country and the world through education, research, innovation and community service.

Sixty years ago, our founders took on the historic mission of establishing a comprehensive research university that would combine and bring out the best of Chinese and western cultures. Over the past decades, CUHK has proven to be a magnet for talents, attracting both local and international students and scholars to study, teach, and do research here, and their achievements have consistently won the University international acclaim and respect. Tonight, we are celebrating sixty years of dedication and diligence, which is a tribute to our founders, colleagues, students, alumni, donors, and our entire network of supporters who have been working conscientiously together to help CUHK compose its own epic. Thank you very much for being an integral part of the CUHK story. Tonight, as we indulge in this delightful feast, let us take a moment to reflect on our remarkable journey, applaud the outstanding accomplishments of the CUHK community, and look forward to forging ahead together with vigour and resolve.

（粵）各位嘉賓，非常感謝大家撥冗光臨香港中文大學六十周年晚宴。鑽禧校慶是大學歷史上一個重要的里程碑，有賴在座各位多年來對中大的鼓勵和支持，令大學仝人能夠秉承創校先賢的鴻圖大志，為社會培育明日棟樑，以研究和創新成果推動人類文明進步，讓中大經歷一甲子的耕耘，成為一所背靠祖國、面向國際的世界級高等學府。今晚的聚會充滿喜悅，亦滿載感恩之情，期望各位在品嚐美味佳餚的同時，細味這六十年來一代又一代的中大人以努力、堅持和對社會強烈的使命感所編織成的精彩故事。

（普）女士們、先生們，晚上好！非常感謝大家參與香港中文大學六十周年晚宴，為中大鑽禧更添喜慶，更把我們歷時一年多的六十周年校慶推到高峰。「甲子連心，任重志遠」是我們的校慶口號，意味着六十年來，在社會大眾的鼓勵和支持下，中大成員同心同德，默默耕耘，通過教育、研究和社會服務，為香港、國家以至全世界做出貢獻。今晚大家將一同在歡樂的氛圍中，品嚐每一道美味佳餚，細味中大一甲子的美滿成果。我衷心盼望各位能享受今天的晚宴，並在未來的日子繼續支持中大再創高峰，積極履行以公益為先的大學使命，創造卓越的教研成就。
