The Chinese University received six Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Science and Technology) from the Ministry of Education in 2011, including three first-class awards in natural sciences, two first-class awards and one second-class award in technology advancement.

CUHK signed a Framework Agreement with the Shenzhen Municipal Government in March 2011 which provided for the terms under which the Shenzhen campus would be established, taking the collaborative project a substantial step forward.
CUHK is fully prepared, with a thoroughly updated curriculum built upon decades of experience in the administration of General Education and other programmes, to meet the challenges of the 3+3+4 academic structure.
As part of an effort to build up a more caring campus, the Office of Student Affairs introduced the uBuddies Peer Counselling Network in January 2011, here seen inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor and the Provost.
Past colleagues and students mourned Prof. Baysung Hsu, Emeritus Professor of Physics and former Pro-Vice-Chancellor, who passed away in April 2011. Professor Hsu was greatly respected for his contribution to the development of the CUHK during its early years.

The Electronic Engineering Department celebrated its 40th anniversary in December 2010. Seen in the picture is Dr. York Liao, currently Chairman of the HKCAAVQ and one of the faculty members of the Department in its early days.
The Finance Trading Laboratory was opened by the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury in November 2010. The laboratory would provide practical training on the art of trading vis-à-vis real market fluctuations, and on the spot decision-making.

The Vice-Chancellor presented awards for Exemplary Service to eight members of staff in January 2010. The presentation ceremony was attended by some 160 guests including the families and friends of the recipients, their colleagues, and also senior academics and administrators of the University.
Prof. Benjamin Wah, the first Provost of the University, is poised to open the door to many innovations. Prof. Wah, Wei Lun Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, is the principal academic officer of the University and will be at the vanguard of research and curricular development at CUHK.
The School of Public Health and Primary Care was formed by regrouping existing programmes for both efficiency and effectiveness in teaching and research in the Medical Faculty. At its opening in November, the dancing lion greeted the director Prof. Sian Griffths (4th left) and other guests.
Dr. Edgar Cheng (centre), Chairman of the University Council from 2003 to 2009. Having steered the Chinese University for six years during a period of rapid expansion, Dr. Cheng will be remembered for his wisdom, fortitude, and foresight.
Staff Honoured for Exemplary Service
Nine members of the University were presented the Exemplary Service Award 2007–08 by Prof. Lawrence J. Lau (6th left), Vice-Chancellor, on 6 February 2009 at the Esther Lee Building.
The annual football competition between staff members of HKU and CUHK, a tradition first instituted in 2003, took place in January 2009 at the Sir Philip Haddon-Cave Sports Field at the University. The Vice-Chancellor, Provost and all the Pro-Vice-Chancellors are seen here at the kick-off. The match ended with a 1-1 draw.
